いまや世界共通語となった“kawaii”。 それは単なる形容詞ではなく、一つの感覚であり、美意識でもある。それぞれが思い描くこの言葉には、複雑で多面的な魅力が秘められている。7名のネイルアーティストが“kawaii”を入口に作品を制作。5つの問いを重ねることで、より深くアーティストの真意に迫る。
Now a globally recognised term, “kawaii” has evolved beyond a simple adjective. It represents a distinct sensibility — an aesthetic in its own right. Each interpretation holds a layered, multifaceted appeal. Seven nail artists approach “kawaii” as a starting point for their creations. By revisiting five key questions, we uncover the thinking that shapes their work and draw closer to the core of their creative intent.

『透格子 Sukigoshi』
A1. 儚げな色彩や繊細な質感、そして作品の中に流れる空気感。淡い色の重なりや透明感、立体的に咲く花々を通して、モチーフとしての花だけでなく、その周囲に広がる幻想的な世界そのものを感じられる表現を追求しました。
A1. Ethereal colour, delicate textures, and an atmosphere that flows through the work. Layered soft tones, transparency, and sculpted flowers evoke not only the motif, but the dreamlike world around it.
A2. 目に映る美しさだけではなく、その奥に流れる気配や神秘まで感じられるからです。感性が動き、想像が広がり、ゆっくりと幻想的な世界へと引き込まれていきます。その世界に身を委ねることで、自分の中にある繊細な感覚が少しずつ研ぎ澄まされていくように感じます。
A2. It goes beyond visible beauty, conveying an underlying presence and sense of mystery. The imagination expands, drawing you into a quiet, dreamlike space, where sensitivity feels gradually sharpened.
A3. 夕暮れ空のグラデーションや澄み切った青い海、彩り豊かな花々など、幼い頃から自然の神秘に魅了されてきました。そうした情景に触れるたびに生まれる、心と世界が溶け合うような感覚。それを自分らしい色彩や質感で形に残したいと思ったことが、現在の作品づくりの原点です。
A3. Since childhood, I’ve been drawn to nature’s quiet wonders – twilight skies, clear blue seas, blooming flowers. The feeling of merging with these natural scenes inspired me to express that through my own colours and textures.
A4. ネイルには、美しいものに心が揺れ動くひとときを届ける力があります。忙しい日々で見落としがちな美しさを拾い上げ、心がきらめく瞬間を生み出すことで、毎日を少しでも豊かに彩るきっかけになればと願っています。
A4. Nails hold a beauty that can move emotions. By capturing fleeting details often missed in busy days, I hope to create small, luminous moments that gently enrich everyday life.

『Mystical Flora』
A1. 一般的なガーリーさやポップさではなく、ミニマルでエッジーな美しさ。そこを軸に、惹かれるフォルムや色、異素材、質感のコントラストを重ね、普段のサロンワークではできない建築的な要素をデザインに落とし込みました。
A1. Not typical girlishness or pop appeal, but a minimal and edgy beauty. I layered striking forms, colours, and contrasts of materials and textures, incorporating architectural elements beyond everyday salon work.
A2. ハッとする建造物や作品、景色に出合ったとき、目が覚めるような感覚があります。「かっこいい」と素直に心が動く瞬間を大切にしていますし、そうした体験の積み重ねが、自身の表現へと繋がっているように感じます。
A2. Encountering a striking structure, artwork, or landscape makes me feel awakened. I value those moments when I’m moved to think, “that’s cool” and how that goes on to shape my own expression.
A3. 幼少期や学生時代にアートや音楽に触れてきた経験が原点です。現在もサロンワークと並行してデザインの仕事に携わっていますが、ネイル以外の表現にも向き合うことで、それぞれが互いにいい刺激となり、価値観を育ててくれています。
A3. My roots lie in my experience with art and music from childhood and school. I do design work alongside salon practice, and the different forms of expression in each inspire one another and continue to shape my perspective.
A4. 心を緩めてくれる柔らかさと、気持ちを引き締めて自信をもたらしてくれる強さ。その二面的な魅力が、ネイルにはあると思っています。今回の作品は少し緊張感のあるデザインのため、日常に取り入れるのは難しいかもしれませんが、ネイルが持つ表現の幅広さや可能性を感じていただけたら嬉しいです。
A4. Nails can hold both a calm softness and strong confidence. This design may feel challenging for everyday wear, but I hope it conveys the wide possibilities of expression through nails.
